Home is where your stüff is
During the pandemic, Studio Evka founder Ewa created a design-led homeware range. The focus of the brand was on accessible quality, style and function, without the faux-Scandi claims often used to market homeware in the UK. The initial set of products were all designed to fit together, encouraging customers to play with their homeware – a bit like adult Lego.

Quality stüff without the flüff
EVKA Home wasn’t just a lockdown hobby, it was also a 360 branding experiment. At the time, many people were making homeware out of jesmonite, but using our branding and packaging knowledge we wanted to explore how making a considered and consistent brand for the range could elevate our offering.
The logomark uses the same forms featured in the products, to continue the feeling of building and exploring with shapes. The brand copy and product names play with the Danish and Polish language – a nod to Ewa’s heritage but also playfully challenging the cultural stereotypes we associate with ‘good’ design.
In high demand
EVKA Home grew rapidly over 2020 and 2021, resulting in a mass influx of wholesale orders from boutique homeware shops across the globe. It was then that we had to reflect on our motivations for the project, and whether transitioning from a creative studio to a business that involved mass production was really what we wanted for our lives and the environment.
We also collaborated with like-minded brands such as Astrid & Miyu, Mayku and Days Brewing. After being commissioned to create a series of mirrors using Mayku’s Multiplier machine, at the end of 2021 Ewa decided it was time to wind the project down and start exploring her love for designing objects and spaces in other ways. This is something that’s still evolving and influences the decision making for Studio Evka today.
