Making a mural work

Murals are often striking and visually engaging, but in interior settings they run the risk of dominating the room, consuming a single area or wall without much consideration for its function and the objects within it. For this project, we took a slightly different approach – taking into account the furniture, existing artwork, and uses of each room to create our design. Using illustrative and graphic forms to respond to existing elements, we created a sense of visual harmony and engagement for this dynamic workspace.

The challenge

Veega came to us wanting a colourful graphic treatment for her photography studio in Brighton, one that considered the different functions of the space, while not impacting her ability to concentrate in it. Using Veega’s brand colours to influence the palette, we created simple graphic shapes that linked the interior walls together.

The purposefully-designed shapes guide your eye across the room, settling on a cobalt blue gallery wall. Gradients have been used on some of these shapes to create a sense of depth and tactility.

A team effort

Bringing together a skilled team of painting and decorating professionals (plus Jasper the pup), we brought the designs to life across the studio. Using amazing eco-friendly low VOC paints provided by Yes.Colours, we certainly had a lot of fun watching paint dry!

The cobalt blue gallery wall now also serves as a backdrop in shoots, as well providing the perfect photo opportunity for user-generated content.

“We’re so happy with the results and have already received lots of positive feedback from clients, friends and our wider community.”
